Canoe the Loxahatchee River

Every year around this time, the Scouts of Troop 840 get up bright and early for one of our favorite Florida outdoor adventures.

Overnight gear goes into the car, rash guards go on, dry bags get packed—and we head to Riverbend Park to begin our annual Loxahatchee River kayaking and canoeing adventure.

While the Scouts get ready for the river, the adults make their coffee, put on their uniforms, and get ready for a full day on the water.

From Riverbend Park, we launch for a 5–8 hour paddle north along the Loxahatchee River, making our way toward Tanah Keeta. Along the way, we’ll navigate the river’s winding turns and tackle at least one portage.

If you’ve ever paddled one of Florida’s natural rivers, you know that slow-moving water doesn’t necessarily mean an easy trip. The Loxahatchee’s narrow, winding passages make for a fun—and sometimes challenging—Florida paddling adventure.

For the Scouts, it’s more than just a canoe or kayak trip. It’s an opportunity to spend time outdoors, work together, challenge themselves, and experience the natural beauty of Florida.

It’s one of those outings that becomes a tradition, a story, and a memory.

We hope every Scout gets the chance to experience it!
